Main content in this CSS columnar layout goes in here

Steps to reproduce: just load this page.

Actual results in Internet Explorer 7: the main content (central column) is pushed down by a huge gap and the left column has light green stripes. As you scroll down slowly, the light green stripes are redrawn. If you hover the mouse over the vertical sidebar navigation links, the light green stripes change.

Expected results: the main content (central column) appears normally (without large gap at the top) and the left column background-color is all gray.

Note: Firefox 2.0.0.4, Safari 2, Safari 3.0.2, Opera 9.21, Konqueror 3.5.8, NS 6.2, NS 7.0, NS 7.2, Amaya 9.55, Hv3 TKHTML alpha 16, K-meleon 1.x, Galeon 2, Epiphany 2 get the expected results.

"I'd also like to turn comments like 'IE 6 and IE 7 failed to render even basic columnar layouts in CSS' in to solid work items, but I don't understand the problem - much of the web uses columnar layouts that work in IE." - Chris Wilson, August 10th 2006
